1. Disconnect any exterior hoses and fittings that are connected to your hose bibs.
2. Drain Hoses and put away.
3. Evaporative Coolers:
Drain them making sure all water is removed completely. Unhook and drain the line that goes to it. Cover cooler with canvas then a tarp. (Some people also put a pillow on the inside of their cooler to help block cold air from entering the house.)
Window Mount Coolers:
Disconnect water tubing from water source and drain completely. Make sure cooler is completely drained as well . Cover the cooler.
4. Sprinkler Systems:
Turn off stop and waste at main water shutoff for your sprinkler system, if sprinkler system is installed properly the system will drain automatically.
5. If in the past, you have noticed ice build up on your roof and gutters, now would be a good time to install a snow and ice melt system.
6. Septic tanks: If its been a long time since you had it pumped, you may want to consider it before winter. Winter pumping costs more.
